Since we missed a blog a couple of weeks ago, Cutest and I felt like we owed you one, just for being our great fans. (That’s assuming you will consider this a bonus.)

Yesterday morning I, Cute to those new to our blog, walked over to Crown Center’s coffee shop, choosing hot chocolate to warm my insides. I had issued an invitation to Cutest to join me, however eight in the morning is not always her favorite time to be out and about.
My mission was to document the delivery of the Mayor’s Christmas tree. Every two years, two 100 ft. or more Douglas firs are hand-picked by a Hallmark exec, then one is loaded on a custom flatbed trailer by a humongous crane, and transported directly to the Crown Center plaza. The other tree awaits its turn the following year. The same driver has happily driven this special gift to K.C. for 24 straight years.
Right on the dot at 9 a.m., with Kansas City’s finest providing a motorcycle escort, the tree rolled down Grand Boulevard. Quickly the driver masterfully backed the tree-laden trailer onto the plaza. Obviously a slow news day, every media outlet in town ascended.
Shortly after lunch the tree rested on wooden horizontal scaffolding. Some 800 boughs now await to be attached to the tree after it is lifted on to its podium, with decorations to follow.
After the tree is retired from its holiday duties, Hallmark will transform it into thousands of special tree ornaments for the following year, which are always put up for sale the day after Thanksgiving.
So grab your besty, your family and friends and treck on down. The evening after Thanksgiving, the fir will come alive after a switch is thrown to illuminate thousands of lights.
Please note, the video shows the hordes of crazy souls (besides the always unpictured me) down there for this exalted arrival.
See what you missed, Cutest? Maybe next year?
(Unlikely says she.)
