Cutest Won't Bike; I Will and Here's Why 6/26/23

What could be more refreshing on a bright summer’s morning than a city bike ride? Today my faithful friendly pooch joined me. Now Cutest has not bought into riding around town on two wheels. Especially when she must provide the power to do so. But in an effort to keep myself in better condition and maintain my youthful appearance that Cutest seems to appreciate, the puppy and I rode forth.

Biking or walking really reconnects one’s senses with the surroundings. Most are quite pleasant. The lush wafting of coffee caught on the morning breeze from the Messenger coffee shop along with their fresh baked pastry aromas so delightful could almost float us in there. But, sadly, they are not dog friendly. Now everything isn’t roses to the nose. Lidia’s parking lot for years has had the offensive sewer gasses unpleasantly welcome you to that area. Also when a clamoring train rolls down the nearby tracks, diesel odors can be overwhelming.

But today, the good outweighs the bad. Late, late night folks cautiously stepped foot out into the glow of the morning, squinting in disbelief that they had survived another night. One gentleman we passed raised his half empty glass of beer in toast to the new day.

Pooch and I more gently celebrated another way by purchasing a coffee and a donut close to home. We then rambled over to the Crown Center fountain and observed the maintenance folk delitter and polish the surroundings after a weekend of wild abandon.

Perhaps Cutest will feel the urge to attempt the feat of bicycling in the future after reading this report. Stay tuned.

Attractive red brick building up top? You probably already know it was a sausage factory.
