HOW TO WATCH A MOVIE AND ROW YOUR DRAGON

Summer having officially begun, Cutest and I decided to take in a movie, outdoors. Since drive-in movies have gone the way of 25 cent coffee (not sure we’re that old), we chose the Tivoli at the Nelson. Yes we know we’ve reported on Nelson activities quite a bit lately, but they do have a lot of entertaining events to enjoy.

On the east edge of the Block art extension is a shaded grassy slope that is perfect for lawn chair seating for approximately 100 -150.
As you walk to the cordoned off area, a pop-up concession stand offers soft drinks, beer, wine, and limited snack foods. The cold beers were from an unknown-to-me-brewery but they still quenched my thirst. Cutest didn't like it. She also hated the wine cocktail I faithfully brought her and settled for water. I was also happy with my snack, since I love Pirate's Booty which Cutest thinks is badly flavored Styrofoam. There are also far better bagged popcorn offerings she grumbled, at the same time proclaiming her expertise on the subject as she munched away.
When purchasing online tickets, you have a choice of GA or “pod” seating. I didn’t know what that meant but it turned out the pod section is closer to the screen and consists of chalked squares or circles that two people can sit within. It’s a tote your own lawn chairs or blanket event.
The 1959 comedy, Some Like It Hot directed by Billy Wilder, had an all-star cast: Marilyn Monroe, whose acting was as good as her figure, Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and many more. Set in 1929, it is a fine laughable romp and tribute to the past. (BTW, it's available without the outdoors on Prime if you want to watch it too.)
A strong westerly breeze wafting through the crowd reminded me of past summer nights, sleeping on the back porch, inhaling pure air and listening to the after-dark sounds. Like going to a drive-in movie, this Nelson experience is probably something you would not want to repeat every weekend but like fireflies and soon fireworks, it’s part of perfect summer experiences, in retrospect.
Even Cutest agrees with my last statement.

The next morning Brush Creek was invaded with Chinese Dragon boats. For more on that hot and watery festival, be sure to tune in to our upcoming edition of The Cutest Couple Ever. I know, I know: You can’t wait!
