Sometimes you just don't have to do the obvious. The "Celebration at the Station" was last night and instead of burgers or hot dogs, we had tamales.
Very specific tamales which we do want to recommend: Milo's tamales and you can order them and arrange pick-up at milostamales@gmail.com. One of us served them to three (well, self-proclaimed) experts and all pronounced them excellent! We also tried those from El Puebilto, known especially for their tacos, 810 Southwest Boulevard, also $20/dozen. A deal. Also good.
I've never made a tamale -- it looks like a time-consuming challenge so I probably won't tackle them, but steaming them certainly is not.
As I steamed, I was reminded that you don't have to do the same thing every time and that even traditional holidays can be changed. And then we watched the now traditional but always spectacular fireworks on a perfect Sunday evening.
P.S. Fireworks, like sunsets, never are as glorious on film as they are in real life. Why do I keep trying??
P.P.S. OK, not funny or clever but this, hopefully, just made you remember something for a second: that we don't have to do everything the same way all the time. (In case you need to be bludgeoned.)
