Saturday morning, your Cutest Couple Ever strolled by hundreds of Hospital Hill Run participants who had gathered on Crown Center pavement. On this bright summer-like morning, the thin, the wide, the short, the tall, and the young and not-so-young flexed and stretched and showered as they returned from their walk or run of the 50th anniversary edition of this race against time.
We, on the other hand, rode in the comfort of the free-to-ride KC street car to the River Market. (Well, not exactly free to us as we pay taxes for it. Cutest pointed out she’s down to about $50 per trip. She tries not to think about that part.) Our mission: secure fresh fruits and vegetables for that night’s dinner party that Cutest was hosting. And flowers.
The City Market never disappoints if you are looking for a variety of foods or people. Who would think our little city in the middle of the country would have so much diversity.
To top off our morning adventure, we purchased steaming coffee and fresh, flaky pastries from Bloom Bakery, found a shaded table and chairs and ate, sipped and observed.
There are other markets around the metro, but none can surpass the grandfather of them all – since 1857 – for entertainment value and delicious edibles. (Note the slides.)
And the flowers? Got 'em, as well as a picture of Cutest.
