Not sure why I get the pleasure of writing about our more serene, even bucolic walk-abouts. Such is the fate of a poetic and sensual genius, I guess. Ha and if only! But we all know that truth is a variable commodity today.
So now that we've all stopped gagging, here's the brief: Cute and I embarked on the Lotus Entertain You Water Garden Tour Summer 2023. Embracing a change from our cityish living, we ventured to assorted hinterlands, from close-in to areas I've never seen and probably won't ever again. We caught the first and second of five Saturdays, each featuring 8-12 water gardens in specific areas of town. Not sure how people did this pre-GPS.
Gardens and ponds ranged from a front yard bathtub size fountain and pond to an entire acre-plus, full of paths, water features, koi ponds, buildings, miniature train set-ups, and gorgeous flowers everywhere. I've been on several pure garden tours during my short life, and these were certainly equal. And since we toured this last Saturday, post-huge summer storm, I can also tell you how quickly pond aficionados can clean up nature's mess.
What was interesting to me in our pastoral pursuit is that the homes were not necessarily in the country at all. Amazing gardens and ponds in the back of ordinary homes on suburban streets. Secret hideaways where one’s neighbor could never intrude. Places where I’d love to rent the backyard on a nightly basis. So many areas show love and care and sheer beauty – and so many owners do their own upkeep. Mind-boggling.
