10 Exciting Places To Go in 2024 According to the WSJ

TheBetterHalf

The Wall Sreet Journal recently said that a good trip starts with a spark of inspiration and lists "10 of the most exciting places around the world to fuel dreams of escape, whether you're after adventure or refreshment or a little of both."

Their choices included Malaysia, lamu Kenya, Kangaroo Island Australia, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Kyushu, Japan, the boundary waters canoe area wilderness of Minnesota, Prague, the Balearic Islands, Spain, all of which we've never been to, and KANSAS CITY!  Woohoo and who knew?

No more derisive cowtown monikers. No more hurumph, a fly-over place.  We have made it! Even if you've already seen the article by now, we didn't want to miss this opportunity to shine the spotlight on our fair city. A city which many of us take for granted.

The article describe CPKC stadium, the first soccer stadium in the world built for a top division women's team, the Kansas City Current, which is opening in March. We should all be there. It also discusses the fact that KC will host pickleball’s inaugural Pickle Con in August with 100 courts.  Yes, we should be there, too because you play pickleball – or have at least once we know.

It mentions Rock Island Bridge, a waterfront highline which will soon connect Kansas to Missouri with a string of bars and cafes. See their website, with the big grammar error (pronouns, people, nominative pronouns) at www.rockislandkc.com.

The article also mentions the opportunity to kayak on the Kansas River for boating enthusiasts (on brown water we add).

The article includes Pennway Point, a downtownish entertainment district opening in the spring. We've already talked about Pennway Point, sorta, because we rode the Ferris (not a typo, we respect historical accuracy and honor George Washington Gale Ferris who invented it for the 1893 Chicago’s World Columbian Exposition) wheel upon its opening. (Ha!  Follow that sentence. Hint: we were not in Chicago then.)

It also of course mentions our world famous barbecue, one of the few mentions not in the future. The article concludes by saying that even under the current celebrity spotlight (think Travis and Taylor), the soul of our city remains intact.  Whatever that means.

Anyway, today we’re celebrating KC.  Thanks WSJ for the recognition.  We cool.
