To Market, to Market (but No Fat Pig)

Ahh, the provincial farmers' market. Where sweaty farmers display home (farm?) grown produce in shiny primary colors or coated with the remains of their earthly habitats from rickety tables adorned with penciled price signs which were always lower than at the grocery store.
Well, not so much anymore if you travel to Overland Park Market's new digs at 79th and Marty. We went this morning (NOT at the crack of dawn) because I, Cutest, was looking for heirloom tomatoes (not to be found) and non-mealy peaches (I'll let you know).
Middle pic is from https://www.opkansas.gov/our-history The history is interesting. The rest are Cute's, as usual.
The new structures and arrangement are much nicer than in those aforementioned old days. We easily found parking. There is a great variety of produce, unlike the clientele, and people were polite -- in fact, they now stand in lines, awaiting their turn to buy. The bagel line never diminished but I can't tell you how the touted New-Jersey style bagels tasted as I'm not waiting behind 18 people for a bagel. Not when cinnamon-pecan rolls are available.
The market is not as noisy (no music was playing), is less crowded feeling (granted, we weren't there on a Saturday), more sanitized and very suburbanized. I only noticed one organic vendor whose veggies were less dramatic. Besides veggies and fruits and berries, meat, baked goods, cosmetics and flowers (which seem to be grown only by Vietnamese people just like downtown's market) were all there. It IS more fun than a grocery store but it's not less pricy. And I guess that's fair.
It's worth a visit. Do go, Wednesday and Saturday mornings almost year-round now from around 8 a.m. to noon. Check the website, https://www.opkansas.gov/explore-the-market.
